Knowing Your Mom and Knowing Your God

Mother's Day (1)This past Sunday we were privileged to have Pastor Stephen Mak preach at the 8:45 am worship service on Mother's Day. Pastor Stephen asked us candidly, "Do you know your mom?" When he asked himself this question, he realized that he didn't know his mom as much as he would have liked. So his heart's desire is that he could get to know her better and spend more time with her.

In the same way though, Pastor Stephen also challenged us with the question, "Do you know your God?" In Ephesians 1:17 Paul prays for the Ephesians that they could know God better. How do we get to know God better? The apostle Paul, points us to 3 things in Ephesians:

The first thing we should know is "the hope to which He has called you." Jesus did not come to condemn us but to save us! That should give us hope  when we approach Him.

The second thing we should know is "the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people." We are precious in God's sight and our esteem in Him should help us to stand tall.

The third thing we should know is "His incomparably great power for us who believe." Jesus gives us new life on the basis of His resurrection and it is the power to face death with a smile.

Even though Paul was in prison when he wrote this letter, he did not write as a discouraged person. He had hope because he knew God. Do you know God? How can you get to know God better? 1) Pray 2) listen, read, study, meditate and follow God's word 3) allow the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.

May we put all 3 of these things into practice this week!
