It was a typical South San Francisco summer day. Which means it was freezing cold. Unfortunately the fog that chilled SSF, somehow chilled the SFEFC team. This week the baskets were just not falling and this game had the lowest individual scoring of all the games so far. Holy Spirit Lutheran also put up a tough defense that caused a lot of turnovers and fumbled passes.
However, there were definitely bright spots. This was a very winnable game and it was neck and neck the whole way. At the end of the 1st half, Emmu Zhou subbed in with 18 seconds left. The score was tied 14-14. In that short time, Emmu stole a rebound from the other team and put it back for 2 points! At the half, SFEFC was leading 16-14.
Unfortunately we didn't have that last second blessing in the 2nd half although it looked like we might. Towards the end of the 2nd half, the score was tied 30-30. In the last minute, a foul was called against SFEFC and Holy Spirit Lutheran made their free throw, making it 31-30 with 3 seconds left.
SFEFC called a time out. When they came back onto the court, the ball was passed in and a pass was made to Brian Regis who launched a 3 point shot and made it!! However, time had run out and the shot was not counted. SFEFC lost 31 to 30.
Even with the result, I'm so proud of our guys. They didn't yell or get angry. We all were disappointed that the shot didn't count, but Brian did make the shot and I felt that the team handled the defeat well. Two more games left - we will press on!
Birthday boy Jonathan Ching put up 5 points (one 3 point; along with 4 steals and 1 rebound). Tony Wong also contributed 5 points, all from free throws. Thanks to Lemuel Chan who helped me count assists, Tony also led the way with 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds. Jason Liao (one 3 point shot, 1 free throw; 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal) and Jacky Guan (2 steals, 2 rebounds, 1 assist) both had 4 points. Kevin Chow had another great defensive game with 5 rebounds and 4 points. Calvin Ho scored 3 points (1 free throw and 1 rebound). Yulin Deng (1 rebound, 1 steal) and Emmu Zhou (1 rebound, 1 steal) both had 2 points. Brian Regis had 1 rebound.
Let's come back strong from this! The next game is Tuesday July 5th at 8:30p at SSF High School. Thanks to all the fan support!
